Welcome to

Knotty Ash Primary School
& Deaf Resource Base

We are a busy, friendly school with lots going on.

As a one-form entry school, we are small enough to be a family. Everyone at Knotty Ash is very proud of the school’s ethos, which values respect and fun; relationships between staff and pupils are mutually supportive. At the heart of everything we do is a belief in our duty to develop the whole child.

Our academic expectations are high and we strive to support each child to achieve their full academic potential. We also offer a broad curriculum which values investigation, curiosity and creativity. We also have links within the local community which further enrich opportunities for our children.

A very important part of Knotty Ash Primary is our Deaf Resource Base provision, with space for 19 deaf children. Every child in school, from Nursery upwards, learns to communicate in British Sign Language – a wonderful life-skill!

With very best wishes,

Chris England

Flagship School for Inclusion

The Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) Award has assessed Knotty Ash Primary at ‘Flagship’ status for the last 4 years. Some quotes from the assessments are:

“Knotty Ash Primary School embodies inclusivity. The ethos and culture are unlike any other school. For the staff who work there, and pupils who attend this exceptional school, the ‘magic’ becomes the norm. For external visitors, each time you visit you are wowed by the inclusion in action, which is truly special and unique.”

Deaf Resource Base

Knotty Ash Primary School is home to Liverpool’s only primary resourced provision for deaf children. Our Deaf Resource Base (DRB) accommodates 18 (moderate-profound) deaf children from Liverpool and neighbouring authorities.

The DRB is staffed by qualified teachers of the deaf, a full-time BSL tutor and specialist support staff. We employ deaf and hearing staff and recognise the value of deaf role-models for all our children.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to inspire children to learn, and to enjoy their learning.  Cross-curricular links are relevant and engaging.  Each topic is linked to important aspects of children’s own lives, local communities and global society.

INCLUSION

We want to ensure that every child here feels a sense of belonging, being valued and being loved. At Knotty Ash, inclusion is in our DNA – it’s not something we do, it’s something we breath.
